The Art Corner program is envisioned to support arts and crafts projects created from second hand materials. Working with the art community in the Santa Clarita Valley, the City uses SWAP to help promote art projects using waste materials. Working together, listings on the SWAP website are identified as conducive to creating art with the Art Corner project. The City will approach all local non-profit thrift stores, the Arts Alliance, California Institute of the Arts, College of the Canyons, local schools, the Newhall Community Center, recreation classes, Boys and Girls Clubs and art related organizations. Ultimately, the project will include local artists creating projects that can be easily duplicated using waste products and/or where project kits can be assembled.

The City will host a "train the artist" workshop, using local artists and volunteers as the trainers, to show teachers, crafters, artists and other interested parties how to make projects using the materials in the project kits. The City staff will coordinate the networks needed to facilitate this program, with the art community taking the lead on the project, with intermittent support as needed from City staff. In addition, all postings on the SWAP main site will be reviewed for its applicability to arts programs.

If your organization would like to participate in this program, please contact the City of Santa Clarita Environmental Services Division (661) 286-4098 or via email at environment@santa-clarita.com. Please browse the listings occasionally for information on what art resources are available, as they change regularly.
